Firewood calculations

Firewood Math for Elephant Lake measurements

Hardwood wet weight 63 lb/cu. ft. ( pi rl) and weighed.

After 130 days, under cover, dry weight = 43.5 lb/cu ft. (69 % loss weight)

A bush cord of 12” diameter 4 foot logs x 4 ft x 8 ft  = 100 cu ft

(this is ‘pure’ wood not 128 cu ft for volume of a bush cord)

Thus, 100 cu ft x 43.5 lb/cu ft = 4350 lb! (1 bush cord weight! Pure wood.)

A wood container used to carry wood from pile averages 25 lb/container (above)

Thus a bush cord has 4350/25 = 174 containers.

Thus, counting the containers used, will allow a good approximate of 1 bush

cord of pure wood used.  Sounds like fun, eh? So great living in the bush.

So, at the end of each month, the weight of pure wood used will be added to this blog.

Last drag of season

Swans are still around the causeway, for over a week.  Take a peek.

Cottage burned down, 529 Clarke Rd. Discovered this morning Oct. 5. Nothing firemen could do, just some smoke and a bit of fire.

Hopefully no big rainstorm since the road .... No more draggin'
